The taco is a dish of Mexican origin that is now present in all countries. It has become particularly popular in the United States, where all food-trucks offer it on their menus.

Tacos usually consist of a dry tortilla folded in half and filled with meat such as chicken, tomato sauce, special tortilla spices, salad and cheese. So everyone can choose the ingredients they want for their filling.

Ingredients

3 tortillas
1 chicken breast
1 onion
1 avocado
1 tomato
1 small red pepper
3 salad leaves
½ teaspoon tortilla spice
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt and pepper

 

Preparation

  1. Prepare the vegetables
    Wash and dry the tomato, pepper and lettuce. Dice the tomato and pepper. Chop the lettuce. Peel and chop the onion.
  2. Prepare the avocadoCut the avocado into cubes.
  3. Prepare the chicken
    Cut the chicken breast into small pieces.
  4. Cook the filling
    Heat the olive oil in a pan and fry the chopped onion for about 3 minutes. Add the chicken pieces and then the diced peppers. Simmer for about 10 minutes.Seasoning the filling
    Season the filling with salt and pepper. Add the tortilla spice and mix well. Remove from heat.
  5. Prepare the tortillas
    While the filling is simmering, heat the taco shells in the microwave for 2 minutes.
  6. Garnish the tortillas
    Divide the sautéed chicken between the tortillas. Alternate with the chopped lettuce, tomato and diced avocado. Garnish with the remaining vegetables.

     

    Olive oil is perfect for cooking your tortilla in a slimming recipe. However, if you want to reduce the amount of fat in your dish, try baking it in the oven or thermomix. It will be impossible to cook! The tortilla comes in vegetarian and vegan versions. In these cases, the eggs are replaced by a mixture of water, vegetable milk, chickpea flour and cornstarch.

    This homemade chicken taco is perfect for the summer when you want a filling, tasty dish that won’t hurt your waistline. Remember, the choice of ingredients for the filling depends on your preferences.

    You are just advised to select healthy and organic products. For the chicken, you can make a marinade with garlic and ginger to enhance the taste without making the dish more caloric. If you like, you can replace the tortilla spice with tandoori.

    You can also make your own taco shells by mixing 150g of buckwheat flour with 40cl of water, 1 teaspoon of yeast, a pinch of salt and a dash of olive oil. Leave the dough to rest for 30 minutes. Make your tortillas 15 cm in diameter. Oil your frying pan and grill the tortillas until the edges shrivel.
